You might not know exactly what you're looking for in therapy. Maybe you just know that something feels off in your relationships, your sense of self, or the patterns you keep falling into. If you want someone who will genuinely try to understand your story and explore it alongside you, without pressure or a predetermined plan, that's the space I create.
My Story & Approach
My name is Karli Alm (she/her) and I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), registered since 2022. I hold a Master of Education in School and Applied Child Psychology from the University of Calgary and a Bachelors in Education. Before becoming a psychologist, I spent seven years as a teacher working in elementary classrooms, learning support, and mental health support. I've been practising as a psychologist for eight years across school and private practice settings.
I offer counselling to adults at OBP's Nauton House location in Airdrie, with sessions available in-office, through outdoor walk-and-talk therapy in Airdrie, and via telehealth throughout Alberta. I also offer individual therapy intensives for clients ready to do deeper work in a concentrated format. I take a collaborative and relational approach that starts with building trust and creating safety together, recognizing the therapeutic relationship itself as an agent of change.
I draw from psychodynamic therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment-based modalities, trauma-informed yoga psychology, and cognitive behavioural approaches. I particularly enjoy working with clients who want to explore all parts of themselves: their identity, emotions, and the early experiences that shape their present lives. Together, we may work on depression, anxiety, stress and burnout, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, and identity exploration.
I do my own therapeutic work with a psychologist and can understand and empathize with the courage it takes to get support and work toward change. I show up authentically and offer a caring yet direct approach. I am affirming and welcoming to people of all gender and sexual identities and orientations. My office is located up a set of stairs; please reach out if you require accessibility accommodations.
