My Story & Approach

Hello! I’m Christine Cimolai (she/her), a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. I hold a Master of Education in School and Applied Child Psychology from the University of Calgary, and for more than two decades I have had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across school, community, and private practice settings.

My background is grounded in child and developmental psychology, which continues to shape how I understand people and their experiences. Today, I provide therapy for adolescents and adults as well as psychoeducational assessments for youth. I work with clients across Calgary, Airdrie, and Cochrane, offering sessions in-office, outdoors, and online depending on what feels like the best fit.

In therapy, I support people navigating anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, trauma, and life transitions. My approach is trauma-informed and integrative, incorporating EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy, cognitive and behavioural approaches, attachment-informed therapy, and psychodynamic perspectives. I tend to be direct but gentle in my work, and aim to create a space that feels relaxed, collaborative, and human. Humour often finds its way into sessions when it helps people feel more comfortable exploring difficult things.

Alongside therapy, I also provide psychoeducational assessments for youth to better understand learning, attention, and emotional functioning. These assessments help clarify profiles related to ADHD, learning differences, and emotional or behavioural regulation so that families, schools, and young people can better understand how their brains work and what supports may help them thrive.

I have a deep respect for the courage it takes to come to therapy and begin working toward growth. In many ways, choosing to sit down, reflect honestly, and explore change is one of the most powerful forms of self-awareness. People are often far more capable of growth and resilience than they realize when they are given the right space and support.

Outside of work, you’ll often find me walking our rescue dog (and occasionally doing a bit of amateur dog psychology), cheering on my two daughters at the hockey rink, or camping with my family whenever we can — summer or winter. Our family also understands the unique rhythm of rotational work and the balancing act that can come with it.
