Back-to-School Anxiety Series, Part 3: Guidance for Teachers

This blog post was written by Tiffany Newman, Registered Psychologist, Off the Beaten Path Psychology and Wellness Airdrie

Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions—but it can also be one of the most demanding. As a new school year begins, many educators are balancing lesson planning, classroom management, student needs, and their own well-being.
Our latest Back to School Series – Part 3 provides guidance for teachers to support them with practical, evidence-based strategies to reduce stress, prevent burnout, and stay grounded throughout the school year. From quick grounding techniques to tools that help reframe unhelpful thoughts, these simple strategies can make a meaningful difference.
Teacher's Need Guidance Too
At Off the Beaten Path Psychology & Wellness, we believe that when teachers are supported, students thrive. Our team provides evidence-based therapy for stress, anxiety, burnout, and emotional wellness to help individuals build resilience both inside and outside the classroom.
Instead of trying to be the perfect teacher, try being a sustainable teacher.
Give yourself permission to:
Leave work on time.
Say no when your plate is already full.
Ask colleagues for help.
Celebrate small wins.
Accept that not every lesson will be perfect.
Rest without feeling guilty.
Students don't need perfect teachers. They need present, caring, regulated adults.

We're Here to Help
At Off the Beaten Path Psychology & Wellness, we support educators, parents, children, teens, and adults in building resilience, managing stress, and improving emotional wellbeing.
If you're finding that stress, anxiety, or burnout is becoming difficult to manage, reaching out for support is a sign of strength—not weakness.
You don't have to navigate it alone.
